People don’t tend to go to this site in the first place due to its remote location, let alone do a re-visit. It’s a good hour’s stomp from the roadside park-up atop the A57 Snake Pass between Manchester and Sheffield on the Sheffield side of Glossop. And Bleaklow, the place where the remains of the ill-fated B29 Superfortress nick-named ‘Overexposed’ can be found, lives up to it’s name.
I’ll not do the history bit/story of this crash site as I did it when I visited ‘Overexposed’ on the poignant date of 11/11 last year. You can see my previous report HERE.
There was method in my madness and a reason why I went back here but I’ll leave that for a future date. When myself and non-member GazzaM went back in November it was a bright sunny day and relatively warm. On the revisit it was barely above freezing due to a wicked head wind. One side of my body was frozen and devoid of feeling due to the wind on the walk back to the car. We also spent most of the visit getting dive-bombed by a helicopter dropping pellets to re-establish the heather up on this bleak corner of the country.
It’s hard to give a different take or angle on this place. It is what it is. However the weather was overcast and all the pictures are taken on my phone rather than using my SLR which for some inexplicable reason stayed in my bag.
Anyhow, enough rambling. Here’s the pictures:
