The Papyrus Paper Mill, (not to be said when eating peanuts for fear of machine gunning anyone within a 5 metre radius
), is a disused paper mill complex between Tadcaster and Boston Spa.
The mill in its latter years was operated by Stora Enso, however in 2000 its closure meant the loss of 170 jobs and ending the manufacture of folding boxboard. At the time a rather embittered manager 'Jim Smith' said "We did everything that has been asked of us at the mill, but due to rising prices, especially in pulp, which we have not been able to pass on, coupled with the strength of sterling, we have been forced to close" Fair point, and thus another manufacturing giant closed its doors, never to reopen.
I visited the site earlier this year but could only get into the waterworks section, however this time I was able to access the main site, however my hopes of a full explore were dashed when I found that all buildings were shored up tighter than a clam with lockjaw, and trust me, thats tight
