Patons mill was our first explore on the recent Scotland roadtrip. It dates back to 1782, and is one of the oldest standing mills in Scotland.

It's hard to tell what it was used for over the 200+ years of operation, but one of its last uses involved producing shoe laces and in-soles.

Much of the site has suffered badly from vandalism and arson attacks but it would seem that nobody really cares about the site as they continue to happen.

I liked this place, much helped by the beaming sun and peaceful river running round the site.

Some interesting info here ( http://wikimapia.org/2030029/Paton-s-Mill )

Visited with Kate, Jaff Fox, Havoc and Lost.

Ooh, this is nice. Looks like the kind of place to have a good, leisurely explore.
Would love to have a rummage through those boxes of bits.
Good stuff, Mr B. :)

It was pretty interesting here in spite of the trashedness.

There is a river flowing through the ground floor, I think it's from a burst pipe

A couple of explorers have really comfy shoes now;)

Thanks for the replies Pincheck and Foxylady. Great photos lost, especially like the 'spinning' shot!

Oh, FFS, that's the loom wrecked now - we (the Clyde Heritage Trust) were trying to retrieve that. That burnt-out roof - is that the front offices?

It's shocking how quickly this has gone downhill.

Very good shots there fellas

I like these shots very much particularly the spinning shot too...and that second shot Marlon, the blue paint looks like some familiar blue paint that we all know well!

That's a great selection of shots there :) gives a good expression of the size and condition of the site. I would'nt try the roof either ;)
