The History
Permanites Cawdor site was built in the 1960's to produce mastic asphalt in the form of flooring blocks and roof linings. Using bitumen brought in from Ellesmere port and limestone from the local Middle Peak quarry. The site closed in 2009 to relocate to Grangemill. Now known as IKO.

A quote from a Facebook group:
"Originally this was Permanite. Mastic asphalt is a mixture of bitumen with limestone grit and powder mixed at around 200c for about 5 hours. Run out hot by hand in metal buckets which weighted about 10 kilos empty they held a 25 kilo mass of boiling asphalt which the man would pour into moulds. A man would run out ( literally) 8.5 tonnes, after knocking up , palletising the days before 8.5 tonnes and laying the metal moulds.
Brutal work my father did for many years sometimes completing 2 shifts in one day. Hot, dirty and hugely heavy work. It took a breed of hard men the like of which is no longer found.
The men who could, and would, do this job were very well rewarded with , perhaps, 3 times the wages of other men."

Been climbing there loads of times but never actually took the time to explore the buildings.

Sweet lordy this place is right near me! Is there a way to get the location? I joined this site today and the excitement is real! :)

People dont generally just hand em out but 2 min on internet you should be able to find it!
Im amazed if its near you that you dont know of it anyway tbh

I think I misread and thought it was in Ellesmere Port. I googled it before posting and could only find one of this name nowhere near me. Oh heck haha!

I think security has tightened on the site since they started on a new housing estate on the other side of the quarry and its probably due for demolition soon
I have tried Googling this but it shows as the middle of a playing field. I’m not asking for the exact address but could you give me a clue?

You'd think, I live across the road. All they have done is put up a couple signs to threaten people with non existent 'cameras' although after watching videos I realised that many ladders and small metal walkways have been removed, indicating that they may tear it down soon. Only problem being it would take shed as all the roofing is asbestos and its extremely hazardous unless fully soaked in water before removal. Damn they was a long ass response, and I am very sorry!

I was here a couple of weeks ago, just walked my disabled arthritic body through the front gate!
You have to watch out for uneven surfaces, open man holes and the curse of abandoned buildings, drugs paraphernalia but an interesting and very photogenic venue
This site is popular with drone enthusiasts, and I don't mean wimps like.me with my Mavic Air, I mean them bad ass fast ones lol ....very entertaining and some very talented pilots

Yeah it's always been a complete walk in, I can't believe they haven't flattened it tbh.
Met a "racing" drone crew at Collyweston bomb store recently, I was in disbelief how quick they actually are, especially when they took em past flat out at head height. Amazing bits of kit

There is now a fence and apparently CCTV! Don't get why they haven't just flattened the place
