I recently picked up a copy of Urban Exploration Photography by Todd Sypes (highly recommended) in an attempt to improve my images of these places and came across a couple of concepts that could potentially take a lot of the guess work out in the field.

The first is the "Amy method" for calculating long exposure times. This was named after a friend of Todd who taught him this technique, where you set up and focus your image, then using your highest ISO setting, determine time for correct exposure using your light meter. The attached table I put together can then be used to quickly and accurately select a corresponding shutter speed at lower ISO. (12800 ISO was an afterthought as my camera doesn't shoot that high)

The second sheet shows hyperfocal distances at various wide angle focal lengths, allowing you to ensure your whole scene is sharp.

I know that this isn't strictly a photography forum however I wanted to share these tables as they can potentially speed up the process of taking images, meaning you can capture more before having to run away from the secca.

Please feel free to add anything else that may be relevant.
