Not too sure about that, there appears to be an electric motor drive which is geared down about 4 to 1, the geared down countershaft then appears to carry a pulley that gears up to a shaft further to the rear of the machine.
There also appears to be a hatch at the top and a lift up flap at the bottom, this would suggest that something is put into the top, is processed, and then withdrawn at the bottom.
