Warboys opened as a training airfield in 1941. In August 1942 the newly-formed 156 Squadron moved in with Vickers Wellingtons. There they remained until March 1944. They became part of No.8 Group’s Pathfinder Force and remained in this role for the rest of the European war, flying first Wellingtons and then the four-engined Lancasters. Their role was to mark targets with incendiary bombs and flares. The squadron played a major part in Bomber Command’s offensive. During operations the squadron lost 45 Wellingtons and 117 Lancaster Bombers.

Had a lovely stroll down the runway with Rubex on a nice fresh afternoon, having heard about a few bits and peices left behind i was looking foward to seeing what lay ahead. We came accross many different things, the highlight must have been the Mushroom Pillbox and the old carts ect.

On with the photos

Thanks for looking

Very nice jsp! Rather sobering to think that apart from the Fergie and the combine, farm wagons like those pictured would have worked in the fields around Warboys and other RAF Stations as those young RAF lads took off to a very uncertain future. Not only have you captured a wealth of detail, you also record long lost village/country jobs - Blacksmiths, Wheelwrights and Wagon Makers etc. I seem to recall that what you have here was part of some defunct Farming Museum, perhaps somebody here knows more?

Very nice that mate. The old wagons are really nice :)
