i ride past this most days and has always caught my eye. in those famous words "who lives in a house like this?"
i love the contrast in building materials. the bungalow looks so out of place with the turrets towering above it on both sides. also the fact that its all linked and is used still to this day. apologies as was cutting it close to a meeting but was a lovely day so stopped for a couple of pics!

some info on the tunnel and house

Ah yes the farmer who would not give his farm up so they had to build the Motorway round it.

The road forks around the farm for engineering reasons owing to the surrounding area's geology, though a local myth persists that the road had to be split because the owners refused to sell the land during its construction.[20] This is not the case since the owners could have been obliged to sell via a compulsory purchase order

I have emailed the editor as i have contact with her, so i shall add it if i can get hold of the article. Check the link below....:skull:

Now that tunnel portal is very similar to the one at Clay Cross in Derbyshire, apart from not having a house built on top lol. But very, very similar to this. (funnily enough we were looking at the Clay Cross one today :) ), could stand on top of it (behind the fence) watching the trains go underneath.

Cheers,

:) Sal
