Random Concrete Structure

On my wanders the other day i came across this random concrete structure built next to the river, nearby theres a pillbox and this strucutre appears of been backfilled with a load of earth and i could only see the top opening a hatch, was just curious as to what this was, is it an old war building or just a random lump of concrete.

Its raining at the mo otherwise id pop out and take some more, it has sloped sides and is right on the waters edge. Ill take some more once the rain stops pouring down

How close is it to the river? Is there an outfall nearby?

Theres hundreds of outfalls along this stretch of the river, but i dont think this one of them. It could well be a water or oil tank.

I know where you're heading there.

It looks "war-like" to me due to the metal work round the hatch. Without further pics I can't say what though.

Looks like Ivy-leaved Bellflower, which is a wild flower. The leaves don't grow very big, so if it is then I'm guessing the hatch isn't all that big either. Rather a tight squeeze!
