Lancaster moor asylum opened in 1816 under the county asylums act and over the years was extended. As with a lot of asylums villas were added. At Lancaster they opened the Ridge Lea villa which would act as a hospital for private patients, set back from the main building its still a lovely looking building externally. The hospital was in use for patients till 2014 and finally closed in 2016.
I was on the way to Scotland to visit the girlfriend so was passing and thought I would give it a look as I have seen a few pics floating around. Thankfully it was still open. A nice relaxed visit. I was quite shocked with the level of decay that it has only been shut a realativley short time. It's been pulled about quite heavily by wire thieves, but it was in better condition than expected. I actually really enjoyed the visit and the decay is really nice.
