The Kirby Hill ROC as seen in Winter 2007.
I used to pass this regularly, before I started using forums and was unaware of the ROC, and assumed it was something to do with Dishford airfield. Drawings of hatch keys had recently appeared on 28dl and, as a product of boredom, a key was hastily made one night and we found entry to the post.
I had no idea what the equipment was used for inside, but it was obviously a good post and so this, and all other posts consequently visited, became reported as Yorkshore ROC... to try and protect it's identity. Not as many people as there are today were checking these posts out, and for 18 months, the post remained as found, including the presence of the Teletalk unit.
I observed, with curiousity, the number of people suddenly wanting to know you, when you know something they want to know.
Anyway, during the Summer of 2008 various things seemed to happen at the post, but eventually custody was taken by a member of another forum for restoration and the hatch (thoroughly) secured.
So that night it was approach in eerie darkness, and down the ladder to the sound of cars rumbling along the busy road adjacent. We had no inclination to expect this;

The post was found in superb condition. Maps, magazines, communications equipment and other artifacts were all neatly stored here. There were some items missing, as often reported at these posts, such as the bed and siren, but really, it was as if the crew had gone home one night and told the next day to not bother going back.

The item wrapped in brown paper was one of a pair. The same type used in Spitfires;
