Yeah good luck with those plans, the place has been completely stripped by pikeys and is a mess...

Not saying it can't be done but that timeframe sounds awfully optimistic, I wonder if they've actually seen the state of the inside of the place.

Sounds a bit daft considering the number of ready to go steelworks there are around the country just waiting for orders.

I didn't realise the scabs got to it and stripped the place, I thought it was officially scrapped and the machinery sold on, etc? I know secca was terrible...but it wasn't non-existent. Did they just drive a transit in and nab everything!?

I recall the roof of one hall had actually fallen through.

As good as it would be for the community...they probably shouldn't get their hopes up lol

Here's to hoping it opens. Of course would be great for the community ect. But also would be cool to pay a few more visits and see how the place changes in preparation.

It was a free for all there until the owners cottoned on to the fact that pikeys were stealing everything, then only after the fact did security get stepped up big time.

There are holes in the roofs, the offices are a mess, the plumbing is shot, all the wiring will need to be replaced, a lot of the exteriors of the buildings will need to be fixed, it's a big job.

To be fair, Liberty House (the firm which has bought Sheerness) are a big enterprise, and they've certainly followed through with re-opening Dalzell Steelworks up here and are currently planning to re-open Clydebridge Steelworks too. Sheerness will need a few million spent - but the electric arc furnace is fairly recent as is some of the other kit, so it's not like the production side will need to be reconstructed. The roof cladding will be easily fixed - there are just a couple of bays missing their crinkly tin, and a couple of collapsed portal beams. :)

Good news that jobs are being created, and I'm glad I managed to see Sheerness (and Dalzell) while they were explorable. :)

Yes I really hope they follow through with their plans, I worry that they've underestimated the work though.
