Its all about those stairs....just the staircase...that was my mantra as I negated the pitfalls of entry into this heavily monitored premises....negated successfully I might add, until about an hour in.
After capturing the stunningly ornate and beautifully decaying ground floor rooms I was just about to snap the staircase and two secca appear....a door had been put in by some twats recently and they were securing it. We had the standard 'my job to get in yours to keep me out, I am trespassing I know this, no I wont be deleting my pics, do you want me to leave etc etc' all ending with the equally standard 'right then, can you show me the quickest exit please?'
Pissed me right off it did...only the staircase to do as well, just the stairs....and its THAT STAIRCASE FFS!!
So I am a mile away, driving home when I recall the old saying echoing round my brain 'fortune favours the brave' and I am then turning round thinking 'cant be on the monitors if they are driving back to the control room can they?' and ' they'll never think I'd go back 20 mins after turfing me out would they?' so that's exactly what I did: go back, park up, don boots, kit up, negate same heavy security hazards, get the pics of that (yes, that one!) staircase and was off....good result that.
Wont go too deep into the history as it's been done (and can be found) in plenty of other reports but it used to be an Orphanage before being refitted for a new set of occupants which never happened so has been derelict ever since.
Loved this place, a real beauty.
