St Crispins Lunatic Asylum, Northampton, October 2011

St Crispins was a large mental hospital on the outskirts of Duston in Northamptonshire, England. It was established in the 1876 as the Berrywood Asylum. It closed in 1995 and is being turned into apartments.

I am absolutely fascinated by the asylum. I love to read old online documents of patients who were admitted. It's not always nice to read what happened to them in the ways of treatment and why there were admitted in the first place.
If the asylum was still in use today I think most of us would be locked up!

Yes the ladder went up the tower
The signatures on the report are of people have worked up the tower fixing the clock.
Some go way back to early 1900's I have lots more pics on another hard drive that I will have to source.

Nice Pictures Stealthstar, I visited mid 2011 as there was talk the development was back on, doesn't look like much has changed...

Beautiful place! I would LOVE to live there. Be apart of history.
Asylums were scary places, there were several near me, 2 of which have been demolished along with the infectious diseases/isolation hospital. It's nice to see a structure being used.
