Hello there folks,
These pics are from a little visit I did that I hadn’t planned to do so I never had my tripod with me so apologies for the quality; ear plugs are required because the noise will cause serious damage. I also had to put an old film lens onto my rather old digital which enabled me to actually take the photos, but that’s about it really! I then went back about 2 weeks later, with tripod and a better lens only to find the place had been sealed shut like a pair of nun’s draws, them metal sheets with tiny little holes. I have tried to find out some details about the place but there doesn’t seem to be much out there, so here’s all I could find....
St.Peters Hospital is situated in greenbelt land not far from junction 11 M25. The hospital was originally built for the casualties of The Second World War and had undergone many new transformations during the 1990’s. The small brick mortuary was constructed during the 1940’s and was located quite a distance from the main hospital so required vehicles to transport the cadavers. Its first main use was for the storage of bodies from the nearby Botley’s Park, Surrey County Councils Colony for the Mentally Defectives (pc words weren’t in usage when these names were chosen...they really help conjure up thoughts of despair/places I’d like to visit!). It closed in April 2009 when the new £4.89m mortuary was opened within the main hospital.
Ive also seen pics from since the shutters have gone up so i will have a look when im down that way again...
The electricity was still on in there...unless someone woke up a bit cold and tried to warm the place up a little
One of the stainless steel tables has been nicked, whilst trying to find some details about the place I came across some better photos in the archives which were taken about a year before mine and all the tables are there
Sadly it was now that I only found out that my left boot had a split in the sole....it still makes me go eeerrrrr oowwhhh and f@%k and bugga when i think about it
I even considered ripping off the guard and ramming my poor left foot on the buzzing neon donut of pain, just to try and cleanse it off any lurgys....but the mantra “take only photos leave only footprints” nagged me, but i guess leaving my whole foot would been too much
Chapel of Rest
The ivy growing up at all the windows is making the light less easy to get in and creating a more spooky kind of atmosphere....its probably more to do with its former use really
I must have resorted to using the built in flash here
wouldn't fancy going to where this menu came from
Thanks for takin a butchers folks!
