Another slightly belated post of mine; but props to @mookster for provisioning the itinerary; whilst I did the driving. We hadn't seen each other for far to long, around 18 months! So it was great to get out again with an old friend! The day was a nice, relaxed jaunt around some local Oxfordshire sites including this one!
As for history, there isn't too much of it; so I swiped Bens!
There isn't an awful lot of concrete information on the plethora of former, (or indeed current and repurposed) gravel pits in this area of West Oxfordshire. Many of these have been converted into fishing lakes, (one being Standlake Arena). There are a few still active Gravel Pit Quarries and then this derelict one. Little info surrounding its age exists, though it seems that it was brought back into use in 2002 by Hanson after a period of mothballing (of what length is uncertain), and closed at some point in the early 2010s although again a firm date is impossible to find.
