This building complex in the municipalityof Binz on the island of Rugen, Germany was designed by Clemens Klotz and built by Nazi Germany between 1936 and 1939 as part of Strength Through Joy project. It consisted of eight identical buildings and was 4.5 kilometres long parallel to the beach. 3 km of which still exist. Although planned as a holiday resort, construction was not completed and they were not used for this purpose. In 1939 the 9,000 workers on the project were sent to Peenemunde to work on the V-weapons plant. After WW2 the compleax found various military uses, firts by the Soviet Army then by the East German Volksarmee, and the the German Bundeswehr. Today it houses a large youth hostel , a hotel and vacation apartments. Three blocks remain derelict. I was there on 2th July 2017 with two friends of mine after we had been visiting the narrow gauge railway on Rugen Island and took the attached photos.
