This rundown hotel in blackpool was massive, but in a very bad state of repair. This was formerly, a 90-room grand estate hotel with glamorous ballroom. Currently, somewhere between Bates Motel and Fawlty Towers. It was rated as "the worse hotel in Britain", as the owner broke several Health and Safety laws and 15 breaches of the Fire Regulations.
A Judge described him as having had "a callous disregard for the safety of people living in this premises for which you were responsible". ALL the Fire Exits were either chained, nailed shut, or blocked by broken furniture, There was water to only half the building, Ceilings had fallen in, The Fire Alarm had been disabled, HOME MADE FUSES were found in a cobbled-together electrical supply, the walls were mouldy, along with broken windows, debris-filled bedrooms. and a single pole holding up the roof. Thankfully it wasn't Basil Fawlty running this place!
The owner first hit the headlines when his hotel hosted 3 BNP Conferences in 2006.
Along with previous conviction for 20 food hygiene breaches in 2008 and the revoking of his alcohol and entertainment license in 2009 due to "significant and longstanding fire and health and safety concerns" caused the owner to be jailed for 18 months, after Blackpool Borough Council shut the hotel down.
The Explore
Access wasn't to difficult, thankfully some of the boards were missing off the front window, so it was a case of climbing through. Once we were in, we couldn't believe the state of the place, and how massive it was.
Welcome to Fawlty Towers Blackpool... Where you can check in to a holiday from hell
Reception isn't very inviting, with furniture and other crap piled up and oh look, a feature hole in the ceiling!
If you want to phone anyone.... Don't bother, as the phone doesn't work!
Take care when going to your'e room, as there is crap everywhere and holes in the floors! It's all part of Basil Fawlty's Fun House
The Bar is dryer than Hattie Jacque's bloomers, after having a fumble with Dr Tinkle. (Carry on Doctor Gag There)
It's as the song by the Mad Jocks says "We got no lager" and we have no pumps either
Christmas prices
Old pictures found in the office
Here's what the dining room looked like once upon a time
and the Dining Room now
The Gents has certainally seen better days, with the painted tiles peeling, smashed unrinals and missing loo!
The doors to garden, from the Function Room had been bricked up
Due to the bath falling through the floor, we couldn't get in this room
The Laundry
With integrated bathtub
The Ball Room had seen better days
The bottom of the Lift Shaft and surprising, the lift was still there, but on the 1st floor!
The main Electrical Plant Room looked proper dodgy
The Kitchen
A ensuite room, with double doors and a decapitated old bathroom, with one wall of very bright tiles.
Heading down the maze of corridors
While George looks at the missing floor from the room above
An even bigger hole in the cealing
