The Kings Hall

The King’s Hall was built in 1916 and was designed by architect Sir Alfred Gelder of Hull. The King’s Hall building has a 3-storey red brick and stone facade. It was operated by the Uxbridge and Southall Wesleyan Mission and it was soon screening religious films.

By 1926, it was operating as a 1500 seat single screen cinema, still managed by the Methodist church.

The King’s Hall Cinema was closed in 1937. It then reverted back to a Methodist Church use as the King’s Hall Methodist Church. They vacated the building in January 2013.

So after seeing Mockney Rejects report from here i just had to see it for myself. Wind the clock forward a year and a bit. PV and I got in nice and early, went up on the roof and waited for the sun to come up and the light to shine through before the cameras came out.

I have never seen wooden floors warp and look like a sea of waves to this extent before, also these 2 rooms were pitch black so needed lighting up.​

I really enjoyed this report great pics..i have seen a few pics of this place but it has only been the main hall.i wondered if that was it so you have showed so much more.the tiled walls are stunning.as is the piano and that book room

There is probably another reason why this particular flooring has moved in that way. Although the images do not clearly show the feature, I think this is a form of parquet block that was to a Patented Design - each piece having a tongue on one long side and a groove on the other. When laid on the pitch substrate, the individual blocks were thus 'locked' together and the old problem of a loose block being kicked free/out was impossible. Unfortunately this means when the flooring expands through getting damp, instead of the odd few blocks lifting, large areas of blocks are lifted loose. A typical case of solve one small problem and produce a much greater one to put right in the end.
