I Hate football!
Really I do! I find it the most over rated, overpaid waste of 90 minuets that man can participate in.
Just thought Id make that clear before we start.
However this place can be measured in metres rather than miles from my house & I had never paid it a visit.
Strange how that happens isn't it? You travel miles to see some places but somewhere u walk / drive past daily simply goes unnoticed as part of "the neighbourhood".
Anyway believing this will not be here much longer & with an early end to work I managed to pay this a visit.
History
Despite my previous comments it was with a prang of pride I read the history of "our" club. Not because of their sporting success (That is quite frankly an appalling string of failure) but rather that they were the first club to wear sponsorship on their shirts & the first club to have their initials in their floodlights, although I found no evidence of the latter!
There are a few names in the history that amazingly I have heard of such as Ron Atkinson & Paul Gascoisgne who were both managers at one time or another, presumably before they went on to get a real job!
On a personal level I worked for many years with 1970's club player Brian Myton, who later played professionally for Middlesborough.
Kettering have been to Wembely twice...and lost on both occasions, and finally gave up their rent on the Rockingham Road grounds in 2011 which is the last time the pitch was used.
The poppies moved to better things & took over the rather plush Rushden & Diamonds ground (Which is now also being demolished incidentally) of course they soon realised there was no way they sustain the costs of this and moved again.
The club now play at nearby Burton Latimer which is little more than a field!
The Explore
I took the unusual step of visiting this on my own, but access is ridiculously easy, having said that I did have a few moments when faced with several seemingly new security cameras.
Anyway I went in at rush hour off the main road & rather than scope who was about & bide my time I opted for the jump in as quick as possible method, but once in spent quite a relaxed hour milling about, trying not to be seen from the neighbouring houses.
Unfortunately the place is completely trashed, with not a window or door in tact, but there was still a few reasonable pictures to be had.
Excuse the grubby marks on lens lol but hope u enjoy!
