Underground Street - Bristol 2022

An underground Victorian Street situated underneath a busy major road in Bristol built in the early 1800s.

The street was once fitted with gas street lamps fitted to the walls outside the several shops.

In WW2 the street was converted into air raid shelters as a safe haven for the local residents.

The shops were later on bricked up except a few and the road was forgotten about until the 90s when it was rediscovered by some explorers who discovered a hole in the side of the road.

Today the road remains forgotten and full of junk that has built up over the decades.

There is more rooms to it but that's about it which can be accessed the rest is behind a breeze block wall.

There is Mary King's Close in Edinburgh . Sealed off during the plague with everyone inside left to die, it is now a popular tourist attraction. Never been there myself though.

I'd heard about underground streets in other places such as Edinburgh, but Bristol was a surprise!
