The Valley of Fire is about 50 miles north of Las Vegas. I was there on a training course honest! It's quite a big area and we only got to see a small part of it in the 3 hours that we were there.
What it is most famous for is the petroglyphs (from the Greek? for rock and writing) done by Native Americans several hundred if not a thousand years ago. Once you start looking they are everywhere. One thing we did notice however is that they always seem to be on the side of the rock that catches the sun, it's not mentioned in the tourist guide.
Just to set the scene.
The first one you meet is called Atlatl Rock after the depiction of the spear thrower.
I thought this looked like a Japanese lantern

They're every where once you get your eye in.
This last one is called Mouse's Tank after a local outlaw indian who hid out here after being accused of murder.
