Vawser Lodge

Vawser Lodge was a care home for the elderly, it had enough room for 28 patients. It closed down in 2009 when a new clinic was opened. It has been left abandoned ever since then with the council trying to sell the land that it sits on.

Thought I would go along and see it, was disappointed with it though.

1) The entrance of the building.

2) Only one disabled parking space

3) Side of the building

4) Caretakers lodge?

5) No idea what this is?

6) Another side view of the building

7) Being taken over by weeds

8) Weeds again

9) Peeling paint

10) Another side to the care home

11) Beauty spot?

Quite surprised at the state that it is in, I thought it had been abandoned before 2009!

Picture 5 could be a Fire Brigade 'dry riser inlet'. Surprised to see it on this type of building - mostly used on multi-storey developments.
From what I know of the system it allows Fire Brigade to connect a large hose, fill and pressurise the system and then connect smaller hoses at internal outlets/hosereels.

Thankyou I did wonder what it was as I have never seen one before, it also looked very out of place with the rest of the building

The only other reason I can think of for having a dry riser inlet would be if the 'footprint' of the building did not allow fire appliance (fire engine) access to some parts of the building without using very long hoses. No idea what the regulations are now, or when the site was built, but it could explain why the inlet was provided on what appears to be a single storey building.
