More for local explorers this one, the Walton Hotel at Chesterfield which closed late last year has been sold . The new owners have applied for permission to demolition the building, the pub which opened in 1935 is a very good example of Tudor style 1930s architecture, notable the bay window and chimney stack and still has many original features like wooden panelling. I'm hoping the council turn down the application and some locals have placed in objections to the plans but its future hangs in the balance. Either way its worth recording.

It may be worth posting a link to the planning application if you have it so that people can post objections if they want.

Unfortunately I don't know how to do links as I use a smartphone for the internet. Ideally a report would be better then people could see why this building needs to be saved , I do have photos myself its not a case of me been awkward but simply struggling on how to do it. Im not the most computer minded person.

Knowing this place - used to travel into Chesterfield for a night out when I worked in Derby in the 60's - I can see why you feel as you do. However do remember that it is the voice of 'local people' that carries most weight in cases like this.

As for the computer bit - Know exactly where you're coming from. Feel a right prat when our five year old grand-daughter tells her dad - our son - that she had to press the right keys because grand-dad messed up again uploading the photos!!

So glad someone else gets this as well as me

The twist in this for me is I can put an aviator on my profile which is one of my own photos of Willington cooling towers ( five brothers as they are locally know has) but not possible to post up a report ! Never mind. Going back to the Walton Hotel their was a notice on the boarding for a demolition date - 10th August but this has now been removed. Seems to have gone quite on what's happening.

Update. The planned demolition of the site never happened, quite a few locals objected to the plans all has gone quite for now and the building still stands. Hopeing the owners will reuse the building or part of it.

Unfortunately despite the best efforts of locals and myself to save this fine 1937 pub - the Walton Hotel the present owners have been given approval to demolish the building despite the fact no plans have been forward regarding the sites future use. In a supposed enlighten age of heritage and the mistakes of past losses it makes you wounder how safe is our built heritage?
