Washaway Ammunition Depot was built and used by the British Army for the duration of WWII. There were two areas of ammunition storage, a barracks and associated pillbox. The storage buildings are still there but the pillbox is removed from the nearby junction. The ammunition was stored under tarpualin near the barrack block until the ammunition buildings were erected.
remains of steps leading to barrack block.
Outside of barracks
Construction appears to be pre cast concrete
Used as a wood shed now!
There are four nissen huts of particularly strong construction in this area which are locally referred to as 'the magazines'. Each hut measures 36' by 18' and are still in use as timber storage and Scout Camp storage huts.
Lots of old tyres and other assorted debris lying around - the young kids from nearby Bodmin must feel right at home!
People spend hundreds of pounds having a 'green' roof!
info: pastscape & NMR, thanks
