Hey everyone, long time since I last did a post. (Busy for exams you know)

I found a couple of YouTube channels and currently one personal website from an Urbex Explorer. I was thinking about setting up my own personal Urbex website and YouTube channel or Vimeo etc, at some point in August.

I was wanting to get the opinions of users on here. Would you post content (ie videos, pictures, location reports etc) anywhere else apart from this website & would you have your own website?

Please tell me what you think below.

Thanks!

Urbex Phantom

Ps, here are some YouTube links and ONE pretty good video about awareness of alarms, security etc >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt8CIlrblE8

I'm a miserable git. I find the more time goes by, the less websites post on. This is the only forum I post on. I've been on others, but they're not my cup of tea. I post videos on Youtube, but I'm not a big fan. I mostly just use it for hosting. Flickr is...or at least was decent. I thought about making a personal website, but I decided it's too much hard work and I'm more in it for the community, meeting people and having experiences than publicity and likes. That's just my two pennies worth though, it's up to you ultimately :)

Personally I have only ever used this site, I have looked at others but they didn't grab me for long, the rules here are simple the folk friendly and the trust absolute so I'm staying, (sorry krela)

I've tried so many times to have my own website for various purposes, I've never managed to keep it updated beyond the first month, and I used to be a web developer by trade! Personally I do not and never have visited people's own webpages.

It's the mix of people and subjects on this forum that I like and like Krela, I do not visit personal web pages. It's a bit like trying to write a book on your hobby, you suddenly find that the manuscript is far to specialised and does not have enough depth to engage the average reader, who wants to learn about the topic in question. Yes done that and have the pages to prove it - might get round to rewriting the offending chapters some day.

Aye, decent forum is this! It's an autocracy, but it works very well :p No power mad mods.

I think I had a conversation some months back with Pb about making a website, now that I think about it. Trying to do something different when we're in the post-Urbex epoch is near-impossible. It's all been done before, that's the trouble. Also Facebook has eaten everything.

On the flip side, if you'd enjoy doing it then do it! :)

My two penny worth.... I think when someone first finds this 'hobby' they spend every waking hour for the first couple of weeks absorbing absolutely everything out there. For that reason I say go for it. I've been sticking my nose in places uninvited for 10 odd years plus with a camera and longer without. But, unless subject matter appears right up my street I rarely venture further than here.

Different sites and formats suit different people - just be prepaired for some smelly mud flying occasionally if your to be bold.

You are right, it is an autocracy but only as long as the majority of the members are contented with how it is run, we give our support and legitimize it
I agree with and accepted the tenets set down when I joined, they have never changed and I have never regretted joining.

Definitely worth doing, if you decide it's worth doing… Back in the day (2006/7/8) lots of explorers had personal sites and some were fascinating, because they provided a glimpse into peoples' motivations, their approach to things and their unique view of the world. A suggestion: if you do it, do it on your own terms as a digital scrapbook to help you recall the places you've been. On the other hand, trying to keep a site, blog, Facebook, twitter, Instagram etc etc all fed with content is a full time chore, and rapidly kills the joy the hobby brings you…

If I were you I would just keep posting your reports on forums like this and do your video reports on YouTube, if you get an insane ammount of subscribers on YouTube, I.e 10000 plus , then that would probably be the right time to have your own website.
Just because you have a lot of subscribers does not mean they will all visit your site but a fair ammount will.
Concentrate on building your fan base first everything else will fall in to place afterwards.
Good luck

Just remember YouTube channels survive on constant updates and new material , the moment you stop updating they start to die.
