These rather beautiful buildings started life as Whingate Primary School, which at some point, relocated to newer premises close by and the building was reopened in 1990 by MP John Battle, as a base for the local community, offering a nursery, employment advice, Connexions youth services and a range of courses including those offered by Vine - for learners with severe learning difficulties and complex needs. Courses included mechanics, joinery, catering and computers. The centre closed 20 years later, probably due to changes in funding.
Surprisingly, for an inner city area, the place was free from rough sleepers, drug paraphernalia and grafitti. The only resident seemed to be the cat, who kept an eye what we were up to as we moved around the place.
I was spotted leaving by a friendly local resident who I chatted with at length about the old days of bringing up her children on 40p Family Allowance a week!

Thanks for the photos & the cool incidental "fauna." Hope the Leeds City Council will intervene to repair this building while there's still time. Looks like it may be near the tipping point.

Good to see you out and about - Give me a shout if you fancy hitting a few local sites :)

Strange mix of decay and mintness! Lovely old building tho, thanks for sharing!
