Now almost completely re-developed, West Park could once upon a time house around 2000 patients. These shots are from my last visit in April last year. I must get back to have a look at what, if anything, remains!
I visited at the beginning of May this year, mostly just walking around a housing estate with bits of interesting architecture here and there. To be fair, they've done a good job on the retained wards but there's really not much to see. Here's a short list of what's left:
The mortuary/old path. labs (well secured, rumoured to have been cleared inside)
The tower (waiting to be converted)
Scott House (tightly boarded up)
Gardner House (Empty but not derelict)
Staff Social Club (derelict)
c.6 Airing court shelters (Restored)
Small toilet block on the edge of the Cottage Hospital Car Park (derelict)
Remains of gas pipeline (derelict)
Cottage Hospital, Rosebery, Garden Dept., Burnham, Farmside, Woodside, The Meadows (Still in use)
Last time I looked (3-4 weeks ago) the mortuary door was still wide open but the place has been stripped. Really nothing left to see in there apart from the freezers. Planning application went in a couple of weeks ago for its demolition.
