So continuing my recent spate of activity, I set off stupidly early towards Whittingham. A little late, due to the clock change, but so was Ashless, so it didn't matter. As it was it didn't take as long to get there as expected, so we were there at the appointed time anyway
Took a wander through a field and went to nip down a short piece of access road, but were intercepted by a motorbike riding security guard. The least believable cover story in the world was attempted by Ashless. So we wandered back the way we came
A walk round the road, and into some more fields lead to a false start where we urbexed a barn conversion But soon we'd made it inside the perimeter fence.
Many external photos were taken, as I wasn't sure how long it would be before security caught us, as I was sure they would. We did have a bit of a moment, but gained access without too much trouble. And then the fun started.
A word of warning - the floors are really, really bad in places. I'm quite stupid, so walked on all of them anyway. In some places there are only thin bits of beam left, they held my weight, but I don't know how much longer they are going to survive.
Anyway, We had a damn good look round and did about half of the place. Was a very good day out. So, I'll show you a few of the photos.
A larger slection is here
Now we've all seen lots of shots of how the place is falling down arround your ears (if you haven't, google and you'll see plenty), so I thought I'd show you a few different shots. Hope you like them.
It takes several people to cover a place this size
Did I mention the state of the floor? Look through the hole and see the first floor. Look through that hole and see the ground floor
The holes in the wall and the boarding of the windows produce some interesting lighting. The head you can see is Ashless looking round the other side of the wall.
Fancy some entertainment? Have a listen to the beautiful music.
As so much of the roof is missing, there are substantial water leaks. This stalagtite was found inside a storage cupboard.
One of the corridors has a small amount of water, and a kettle.
All the windows are shut, he appears to have forgotten his way out. He wasn't the only one. We walked about for a while before we found a suitable egress point.
Slightly worn round the wires, but otherwise untouched.
There are some lovely structures, architecture and colours in this place.
The assembly hall
Roof tiles on the floor
One of the few pieces of fabric left in the place
The best bathroom in the world. Evar.
The plants are taking over the asylum
The Admin building.
Hope you enjoyed the shots. I'll be going back at some point to do the rest.
