Last year as part of my job I was able to get inside a wind turbine and take a look, I have some photo's if anyone would like to see a couple of photo's I'll post up. I know it's not derelict but it is somewhere that most people never get to see...

If three or more people want to see I'll post up, if not then none taken:).

Long way up.

There's a winch that you attach to a harness so that as you climb it's like being weightless.

View from outside.

Not much room!

Sorry for the quality, it's a bit ad hoc. Enjoy with half closed eyes. :)

Oh yeah, outside view.

The turbine is located in the midlands and generates about 4MW, when I was passing, the ladies were down as they were carrying out some scheduled maintenance. The hub is approximately 45 metres up and is remotely controlled. The turbine can sense the precise wind direction by measuring the wind load on each side as the blades pass and adjust itself for optimum performance. I don't know the exact RPM they operate at but I do know that when they're operating at capacity the blade tips are travelling at over 200 MPH. Whilst the tower is fabricated from steel, the blades are composite and the end 3m of the blades can be fethered automatically during periods of extreme weather.

Thanks guys didn't know if it'd be your cup of tea.

The fall arrest part is a ratchet system built into the tower ladder, the climb assist was like a winch that just reeled you up, it's operated by the cord on the right like a lightswitch, pull on, pull off.
