This was a site I stumbled across during a random period of scouring google maps for locations. I have been unable to find any information about it at all - in parts it looks like a waterworks, in parts more a cement works. There is a flooded tunnel carrying pipes that goes under (into?) the canal, a couple of large settling tanks and various other buildings, the most building-like of which was inaccessible (although it looked a bit bare and ruined really).
It may or may not be related to the large very ruined factory on the opposite bank of the canal, the grounds of which annoyingly were being used as a car park for the Aston Villa match, one for next time.
Explored on my own after Canute was confined to the car following an ankle injury in GKN. A lot of the staircases have been removed so some ingenuity was required to get to the higher levels/onto the settling tanks - cue a random comedy moment when, updating Canute on my progress crouched looking out a hole at the car park, I notice the hi-vizzed up car park steward staring intently at me from the other side of the canal, oops!
The first building you come across, annoyingly the heras fence is screwed into the wall but a workshop area was accessible. The two silos are on a raised section, had it not been so busy next door I'd have found a way up them...
Next was this metal-clad building
Nothing on the ground floor except some sawn off stairs...some ingenuity will be required here I think...
...and I'm up, couple of large machines, nice.
Looking out at one of the settling tanks before the car park steward appeared...
And in the dark, dingy wet basement, a flooded tunnel which heads straight under the canal.
Next structure along in a fetching shade of Pyestock-blue, no idea what it was and it was a shell. The ladders were cut off up to the top unfortunately so no getting on this one.
And down a slope to the edge of the canal, some pipey goodness.
I wasn't going to leave without getting onto one of the settling tanks, again a bit of lateral thinking was required.
Thanks for looking, more here http://www.flickr.com/photos/mookie427/sets/72157628472135021/
