And This is Middleton Towers station on the disuse line from Kings Lynn to East Dereham although a section of track remains to serve the nearby mill.

The bridge connected Yarmouth Vauhall Railway station with an extensive Quayside Line that ran the length of Gt Yarmouth Harbour and port. Using small 4 wheeled steam engines to haul coal in and Herring out.

That's a great bridge but you've whetted my appetite with the old station and loading facilities beyond ;) any chance of some pics from there

Yes I will have to have a return visit to the quarry and see if I can get into or onto rather the station itslelf. The line beyond Middleton station is completely abandoned with the next station being East Winch.

Great photos of the bridge. Ive been past it loads of times and always fancied a closer look. is it a footbridge now?
If i can get my scanner working ive got some pictures of the quayside line back in the 70's when it was still in use. Apparrently some of the engines used were the sentinel trams from the Wisbech and Upwell tramway.

If you look at the line beyond middleton on google earth there are some interesting looking sidings serving the sandworks.

Middleton Towers.

Thanks for the interest T.F. yes you are right about the Sentinel steam engines on the Quay line. Al lot of them were double ended and fitted with cow catchers as well. They were of the L.N.E.R class Y10 according to my book. In later years the line was taken over by small Hunslet Diesel shunters but it was a short swansong and the line closed in the early seventies which I guess made things easier for traffic congestion anyway! Oh yeah I almost forgot about the bridge. Of course it used to be half road and rail with a walkway giving access to the station but when the line closed the rails were lifted and there was just the station footbridge left. The bridge is in a forlorn state and has recently been the subject of much controversy as to who is responsible for its upkeep. There has also been talk of flattenning it which I think is a travesty for such an iconic piece of history that has been standing since 1846
