Well, after a weekend wandering the Lincolnshire Wolds, i thought best to pop in on one of my old haunts after reading somewhere on the net about it's imminent demolition. On my arrival, my jaw dropped, as i was greeted with the view of only one remaining building - too late, gutted!

In my early twenties, i visited this place many times & would literally spend hours looking at the vast amount of old artefacts that were to be found in almost every building, & believe me there were lots.

A little history on Pingley;

Situated in Brigg, Lincolnshire, Pingley POW Camp was built in 1942-1943 initially to house Italian POW's. Known as 'Camp 81', it became exclusively German from sometime in 1944.

I've found a link to a website which documents Pingley thoroughly, & IMO, is the best way to get an idea of how this site was before it's sad ending & also gives more history;

Sadly, photo opportunities from here are now limited to the water tower. I climbed the ladder to the upper levels 15 years back but today i wasn't risking it, dut to the floors looking like they could give way at any minute.

Aw, Jesus! :mad: Same thing happened to me back in the '90s with Castlerankine Camp in Stirlingshire.
Good pics of the surviving tower btw.
One of our members posted a good selection of pics of Pingley on online-archaeology about a year ago. It's a bleedin' good job he did.

This seems to be happening all too often now. More history gone...

That is so sad to see the site razed like that. You must have been well gutted, Badoosh. :(
Excellent pics of the water tower, though. Love the switches and the numbers beneath the coat hooks. :)
