After checking a site early on to see it was half demolished me and rubex headed to Rae Bedford.its a place I have wanted to see for a long time.sadly the 8x8 hall was sealed.or we could not find the way.but we did hit the slightly smaller 3x3 hall, which is still huge and comparing pics from both sites this one looks more photogenic and with far more decay.but I will be keeping an eye out on the other as it would still be nice to see it.
Rae Bedford was an aircraft testing site from 1946 to 1994 when it shut down..they tested planes on the runway.and had a catapult runway which was then later used on aircraft carriers.the wind tunnels of which there was several on site where powered by there own power station.the noise was said to be heard around the area when they were started up.the tunnels and a lot of the equipment has been stripped now,but it was still a fascinating wander around for me,you could see money was spent in these places with the lovely flooring and even the lovely wood doors to the toilets.i loved all the round skylights around the building.
