The Regal Cinema replaced the earlier Cinema Palace Theatre and opened on 4th of December 1909.

It was taken over by Union Cinemas in 1936 and the name was changed from Regal Cinema to Union Cinema in March 1937.

Union Cinemas were about to be taken over by Associated British Cinemas (ABC) and when they did the takeover, ABC changed the name back to Regal Cinema in 1938.

In 1940 a German WW2 Bomb hit the cinema and did damage to it and the organ but these were repaired.

In 1991 the Cinema was later used as a Bingo Hall up until 2010 when it closed down and sold for redevelopment but not much happened.

Projector room is unfortunately stripped but some nice dated plasterwork remains throughout the cinema.
