Ushaw seminary baths July 2016

visited ushaw seminary baths with @Dangle_Angle and Gk-WAX after a early morning start upto Durham ushaw seminary was on the list for the day. The baths was part of the seminary we wanted to see as it hasn't yet suffered in the hands of the local riff raff that seem to have taken a dislike to the seminary and smash and break anything in sight. So here's so photos of the pool.

Nicely done but I'm not going swimming in that pool. Must have stunk to high heaven in there, if the place was going to be derelict you would think that they would drain the pool first.

Sadly not as simple as that - being told some details of the abandonment of this facility, one can see a glimmer of hope that plans to keep this place open might work - any community would love to have the use of a place like this. Unfortunately by the time everything went 'arse about ***' the water was well contaminated, as the treatment plant was not maintained, and evidently could not be discharged to the sewer without proper treatment. Having been involved with the discharge of large volumes of contaminated water / aqueous waste to the public sewage system, the story rings true.
