Cold, wet day in January, I thought I would visit one of my favs. It had rained heavy all night and I now know that the mud in Dover is the most slippy in the UK (how the horses laughed).
Whilst walking to the site and stopping of at the Citadel Battery, I realised how ironic it was that i was going to break into a prison, rather than the other way around (actually someone else has broken in, I just tread in their glorious footsteps). As the South Bastion sits behind the fence of the Immigration Holding Centre.
After slipping into the site and destroying my fav Urbex jeans, i could see my goal. this site has been done by many, but it is a special place. It amazes me that Chavs can still find things to smash up, to any normal person there are just walls remaining. Yet there are new holes, hardcore and ancient boiler parts all over the place.
The site is part of the Western Heights fortifications of which the well documented North Bastion, Detached Bastion, Citadel, Drop Redoubt and Grand Shaft are all a part.

The Ivy covered arch was apparently built like that to create the illusion the site was derelict, to fool the enemy.
