On 23rd June 2012 a 46 year old Dutch airsofter was walking across the first floor of the derelict Eylenbosch brewery in Belgium, when the floor gave way beneath him.

He fell to the concrete floor below, and was killed instantly.

It’s tragic, and it goes to prove that we can never get complacent in derelict buildings. But what is life without a few calculated risks?

Besides it’s snowing out, and I bet there’s a lovely view from the roof above the 7th floor….

UrbexDad, Priority 7, JC101, Osfa and myself soon found a way in.

It was -5C and snowing hard. We were greeted by the ‘Police line do not cross’ tape from the accident. Undeterred, we continued to the courtyard, where we found a corden of police tape below a jagged hole. We looked at each other and shivered. We put a brave face on it, and blamed it on the cold.

It turned out JC101 and I were the most desperate to see the view from the highest point, so as the others began to set up their tripods on Terra Firma, we started climbing.

The wind was howling, and the snow relentless. By the top my hands were absolutely freezing, I couldn’t feel them at all. I was clamping my hands around the last few rungs of the metal ladder, I couldn’t even feel if they were gripping, so was looking to see if my knuckles were straining white from the pale blue skin before trusting my weight to it.

Although it was nice, it wasn’t epic, and it was so cold we stayed for a couple of snaps, and climbed down. I took a few landscape shots, but here’s the brewery:

Cheers to JC101 for this pic

Meeting the relieved faces of our fellow explorers, we set up our tripods and happily snapped away the remainder of the building.

Tasting Room: You cant help imagine that vat full of beer with the Family Guy characters sat in it. Or a drunk Belgiun sat on that stool just dipping his tankard in…

There were some really nice varied bits too, old offices, a nice domestic bit which I assumed accommodated the boss?
