Visited here back in 2019, I saw it on
the forums back in 2009. Visited a few times with no access, but this day I was in luck
The photos are quite dark, and not the best. I was experimenting with my Canon. Not used it for years now.
Although it's derelict there is a live care home in a part of the building. And whilst on the ground floor coming from dereliction to a area obviously used, I opened a door into a lounge with elderly people having a brew and watching TV!
This boys school sadly has a history of sexual abuse. Absolutely shat myself on first seeing the doll standing in the cot...
Opened in 1881 the industrial school could house 150 boys from the ages of 8 to 12 including boys under detention by the courts. The building cost £20.000 to build
The boys were taught a trade in shoe making and tailoring along with a class room education. The school had 64 acres of farming land giving the older boys experience in horticulture and agriculture. In 1986 the school could house 200 boys and the 64 acres became 138 acres, 5 acres were garden grounds. Over 100 pigs, 7 horses, poultry and sheep were kept and the boys would look after them in their daily routine
