My self and philB took a trip up to Halls Green HAA site (Heavy Anti Aircraft), the place was built in the early 1950's to counter the soviet bomber threat.
It was part of the north Thames GDA (Gun defence area) and was under the overall control from the AAOR at Lippits Hill.
The gun placements would of housed a auto loading 3.7" AA gun.
There are 4 placements in all in a shallow arc.
overall view of the site. with 3 gun placements left, center and right in the distance.
view of the inside of the placement.
The AA gun was mounted in the middle with 4 ammo lockers around the outer edges.
One of the ammo holders, the walls have wooden posts in them to hold racking on which AA rounds were stored.
Attached to one of the ammo stores is this hardened shelter, which contained air compressors and other electrical equipment.
Looking inside the equipment room.
Above:-this building held a standby generator.
another view from inside the standby generator room.
Also on site should be the main control room bunker, I'll be going back and try to find it (follow the path the other way next time)
Comment welcome
