i didnt even know this place existed until a few days ago.

its is totally untouched, except by whoever is building new houses to the rear of the site. i thought it was a live hospital but it isnt and is all 'caged down'

however, its nice to see a place that hasnt been trashed by the local chav brigade and i took some shots through the security fence.

just found a blog on google dated 2006 saying this place has been closed for ages. how has it managed to stay pristine? good job done by security.

cant really find any other info, perhaps closed in 2005.

and this http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/hospitalrecords/details.asp?id=2713&page=86#jump2other

Hmmm - nice stuff Anthillmob! The fact that it is in the middle of a nice residential area might be why it hasn't got trashed. It looks the same sort of vintage as those almshouses in Green Lane, St Helier, and also Nelson Hospital in Wimbledon Chase. Good job. :)

i literally live off of green lane, where are the almshouses? are you speaking about legionaiires court, moorehouse court etc? i plan to take a wander round there sometime soon seeing as its right on my doorstep. all owned by haig homes. something to do with ex-service men and their families.

theres a few private roads and my OH tells me that its not breaking any law to walk down them.

nelson hospital is still open, had an op there a few years back.

sorry, to add, CWMH, even though its been shut since 2005 nice to see someone still mows the grass!

Yes those are the ones - I think them and the hospital are all to do with the British Legion. Don't know if all of them are still occupied. They just knocked down a load in Carshalton (!)

re the green lane almshouses, down green lane towards the central road end there is a 'private road leading to an estate'.

the OH insisted i have every right to walk down there and have a nose. so on dog walking duties tonight thats where we went and blimey!! its a whole new world. they have a tennis court, large gardens for every block and it is all set out like some of the old assylums are-ish.

id love to take pictures but need to know the legalaties on this before i do. it is an amazing place. seems 'haig homes' who it is run by care a lot more for this area than ****** council do for the rest of us on the estate. seeing as its homes originally for servicemen and i am lead to believe that there is still secrecy over this i dobt ill ever get to photograph it but it was beautiful.

i wasnt chal;lenged by a nyone on our walk, some teens stared at us but thats all teens go out to do of an evening wherever you go.
