IV recently read a book about life after the steel works closed in the 1970s and 1980s the book is called ' Survivors Of The Steel City' and documents life of a few ex steel workers . My question is how did it effect Sheffield and how derelict did the East end become ( most of the steel works were in the Don Valley /Attercliffe area) Does anyone have any photos of the derelict works or of the East end of the city during that time? Thanks.

IV just been looking though your East End thread the photos are amazing and really shows the effects of the demise of the once great steel works. One of my family worked at Firth Browns on Carlise Street East for many years until it closed , The first black and white of derelict works IV seen before I believe it stood on Saville Street. I think some of your other photos may be Firth Browns it was a huge works perhaps a notable feature of Firth Browns from a Urbex point of view is the medical centre . Meadowhall stands where Hadfields works once stood.
