Elster is situated in Power Court in Luton. You could see their water tower from a fair distance. We always wondered what it would be like inside. Power Court is all gone in terms of life. It’s been boarded up with the aim of introducing a new retail section to the town center. It’s been left to rot for a long time now… Elster was on a bit of land earmarked for possible expansion of this retail area. We’d “visited” all of Power Court we could and looked at Elster longingly.

A short time ago on my usual wanderings I noticed a sign up on their main gates saying they had moved. Brilliant! We did a recce and then sat back and waited for the chavs to break in so we could have a nosey. I don’t force entry to anywhere. It took them longer than expected but break in they did… We were shocked by how large this place is. It’s a maze of old buildings which appear to have been thrown up when the need arises rather than any thought out plans before hand. A sign of a successful company expanding? We could certainly see why they’d moved. I know that moving to their new premises would have taken some time but this place appeared as if it had been abandoned for far longer than it had. The chavs haven’t done a great deal of damage. There isn’t much left for them. Almost all the wiring has gone but one transformer thingy is still humming away. It’s spooky walking into a dark room, following the hum and seeing huge cut wires before turning around and seeing glowing red lights. All a bit Doctor Who.

It has a few gems such as the old light switch, the old style telephone covers, the PA system and the outdate cupboards. You’ll be walking on 1960’s finest office floorspace before heading up/down/road/next (this place really is jumbled) to another area which looks as if it was decorated ten years ago. That’s modern for a place with gas fires and ancient asbestos.

I’ll paste the description of the company which is on their website and then leave you to look at the photos. They’re only snaps. It was freezing in the snow and I didn’t want to hang around. Then my camera died and I had to use my phone! There were also other people in the building. We heard them but had no idea where they were. Snow is handy, it gives you an idea of how many people there are around you, where they are and roughly how long ago they were there!

Great to finally see the inside of this place, thought it was still a live site but being wound down, didnt know it had been closed completely, still a few units holding out on power court before the developers get in.

I'm amazed that its not totally chavved up given its in Luton, its it near the centre on on the outskirts?
Nice find anyways, I've always thought there should be something good and abandoned that way but never found anything myself .(the vauxhaull factory would have been epic but I was too late with that :(

Used to live in Pondwicks Road where this is sited. Just about every window is now smashed, and the couple of times i have been in there to look around in the last couple of weeks have noticed a couple of undesireables with ladders. Now i dont think there were there to clean the windows.
