A beautiful house that has sadly seen better days, and been around on urbex forums for a quite some time. The house has become trashed , looted and the black mould is really taking hold now.
The house most recently served as a college building, but before this was a 14 roomed family home.
Te house was originally home to Alice and Cuthbert Witlshaw. Cuthbert was a wealthy pottery manufacturer.
Back in July 1952 he finished work for the day and returned home to find Alice who was cooking their evening meal in a pool of blood in the kitchen. Sadly Alice had passed away. Poor Alice had been murdered. Hit over the head many times with a fire log. The perpetrator then went upstairs taking cash and jewellery. When he was coming back down the stairs, Alice was back on her feet and stood in the hallway. Alice was then hit around the head with a barbed fire poker, ornaments, vases and stabbed through the stomach. Alice had then crawled back into the kitchen where she sadly doed from her injuries. Police investigating believed the perpetrator was known to the Wiltshaw and had knowledge of the house, also there was no forced entry. A left glove and bloody foot print were found inside the property. Leslie Green a chauffeur/gardener who had previously worked for the Willtshaw family was found guilty of robbery and murder and was hung by Albert Pierrepoint at Wilson Green prison, Birmingham in December 1952.
