I take you mean making the bolts IE cutting the thread. I thought it was a process of rolling the thread though I have never seen it done but have used thousands of the things through my working life mostly stainless ones.
From memory, what were in use were lathe-like machines that were watched over as they did their work. The pungent smell of the milky lubricant that was directed over the cutting tools has never left me.

Don't remind me of suds I used to come home stinking of the stuff and when you had to change the stuff it really smelt rotten, I'm glad I did not work that long in the machine shop but some of the old machinist the stuff used out of their pores

For some reason, I liked the smell of it. Likewise the ammonia pong from genuine blueprint machines; and the smell of sillage in a farmyard. Each to his own . . .

The best and worst urbexes of 2024.

The best - a big school that had been a lot of fun earlier in the year:

The worst - a stripped shitehole of a derelict pub:

Honourary mentions - an industrial, a big room, and a place that had become my new Longy for a few months as it fades away:

Picture quality has definitely dropped now that most shots are taken with a phone.

I presume "Chloroforme" - with the 'e' was French. But why the need for three "Chloroform"s ? Top English, other two Dutch and German? Not Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Swedish or Norwegian. Perhaps Luxembourgish. What a waste of ink !

I honestly have no idea, Hayman.

I returned to the tranny bunker to try and get a decent shot inside with my camera. It's probably the first time I've used my full sized tripod for years:

My usual half incher:

What I came to see - the famous Three Wheeled Tranny of Fife:

It really could have done with some back lighting to set it off.

Cool, that Manfrotto 718 is the classic exploring tripod. I still use the replacement I bought after Skin destroyed my first one in the marshalling yard at Volklingen…
