Anyone have a recipe they like? I've seen a few, but it's typically not a Brit posting the recipes.

I'm sure I read somewhere that you need a licence to mudlark in the Thames, but there's a massive waiting list now that it's become popular thanks to TV programmes? In most cities other than London, you can go down to the foreshore and have a poke around without any grief.

Bottle digging will be exactly like exploring, over time you build up a little network of contacts and start to share good spots.
You are correct to mudlark the thames foreshore you need a license.....I am lucky enough to have acquired one in the recent set that were released.
If anyone watched Mudmen with Johnny Vaughan, you may remember his partner in adventure Steve "mud god" Brooker...he actually does have a license to take people and does regular trip i did one in Jan and will be doing another with him next week....great fun, a little pricey but really do recommend it
