I really enjoyed researching for this place. It has an intriguing history. It was built in the 17th century, but strangely enough does not look/feel that old. Unfortunately a lot of abuse happened within these walls, even suspicious deaths which are still being investigated. It was last used a school to help disabled girls. A neighboring school that helped disable boys had reports of 10's of deaths too. I hope the families find out what happened. So terrible! It makes you stop and think for a moment about the people who lived in these buildings day in, day out. Sounds so cliche, but this was one place that really made me pause and think and take it all in.
It was having some work done to it when I arrived. I had a chat with a local chap and when he had gone I slipped through the herras fence and unperturbed by the large amount of vehicles in the courtyard and very loud noises inside I found a way in and got as far away from the noise as possible. Luckily the bit I wanted to see was away from the workers. I would of liked to of seen more, but I had a list as long as my arm of places to do explore, it was part of a 7 day round trip around Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. This, would you believe, was the first explore in one day, I had a lot of fails in Belgium. I was really disappointed but was finally chuffed to see this place.
