This barn is on the side of a road I frequently travel in Wiltshire. However I have only recently noticed it. On my way back from a shopping trip today I decided to take closer look. I cannot work out what has happened to it. It certainly appears to have completely sunk into the mud. I was unable to go inside as the mud in the doorway was too wet and I wasn't wearing suitable footwear but I could see through the open door the mud was the same uniform depth inside.
The depth of the mud up the bridleway sign in picture 1 would suggest perhaps a mud slide has occurred but if this is the case then the barn must have been built at a much lower level than the nearby road.

That is awesome!
Kinda reminds me of the sunken desert ex-mining towns in the US, but muddier!
Nice find my friend!

Looking at it I don't think it has sunk, rather the ground has risen above it. If you notice the sign is also buried.

Was there ever a flood there as it looks like there might be some sort of tide mark on the walls and doors. this could have washed mud into it or it may have just been pushed in there from building or other work.

Might be an idea to go back and clean it out Jav, if you keep upsetting your Daughter it could be your retirement home!!!!
Unusual discovery you made, enjoyed it, Thanks for Sharing.

Heres a idea - the barn over the road is lower too, the road looks in good nick so what about old crap from where the road has been upgraded? Nice find tho' expect it will be gone soon
