In 1944 several areas of the North Devon coastline were deemed perfect for the U.S to use in preparation for the Normandy Landings. Here in North Devon the village of Braunton was home to 20,000 U.S troops who used the nearby beaches of Croyde,Saunton,Woolacombe to practice on,these photos were taken at Broadsands at Crow Point just around the corner from Saunton, they show the blasted remains of mock defences, the last one is of particular interest as it has inscribed in it "Dundee Bridge",there is a Dundee in Michigan in America. Perhaps someone from there wrote this when the concrete was still wet ???
