Had to go to France to sort something out so arranged a few extra days to see the sites. However the situation was much worse than I expected & I only got to see a few places & this was one.
It was a sod to find 'cause the French are scarring the landscape with a new motorway which chops the road this is on in half. So after much farting around up dead ends and another derelict farm (will post later) I found it in my rear view mirror. Alas the farmer was in the way of my direct access so I had to go round the back route across some newly planted crops - never mind.
The first building was XIVth century. The Chateau sits in a depression & the further away from the security gate, the deeper the depression gets.
Surrounded in an enclosure comprising of the vestiges of turrets and including three other buildings, a barn, a furnace (or bread ovens) and a smaller building possibly used as another dwelling.
In the basement a network of underground tunnels and rooms have been used for occupation dating back to the XIIth and XIVth century. The grounds are honey combed with holes and pits - definitely not a night explore!
During the First World War it was a prison before finally falling into ruin.
I was interested because of the promise of underground rooms and on that count it did not disappoint.

Pit under fireplace
Followed this as far as I dared - didn't want to get stuck trying to see round the corner
Tower
From the tower looking down
The other way
Small Chamber
Top of stairs with another room
From the back of one of the cellars
Tunnels and chutes everywhere
Entrance to the underworld
Inside the cellars
Looking out
And back out again
Furnaces/ Bread ovens
Dovecote
Barn with chained up machinery - Can't think who would want to nick these?
Complete set here
